If you’re familiar with multilingual websites, you know as well as I do that Google Translate sucks, it really does, since nothing beats proper human translators / editors, who can understand words in their context and give a specific tone to a translation. It comes at a price but thanks to the internet, it’s very affordable.
I’ve been experimenting with a few solutions recently and here are 3 services I would recommend (I will update the list if / when I find additional resources).
It’s a platform you can use for free to manage your own team of in-house translators with the possibility to order translations for a broad selection of languages (especially if English is your source language). Click here to visit their website. Prices for translations start at $0.10 per word ($0.15 if you need a reviewer). You can easily import your text files into their gorgeous web app. It’s also possible to import .json files to translate the UI elements of your product. The service also offers an API to retrieve the translated assets on the fly.
For voice over translations & recordings, I’ve recently used highly recommendable suppliers from Fiverr, who have translated & recorded my English voice over into 11 languages. Here are the links to the nice people who have contributed to the adsy global playlist. I paid on average $25 for both the translation (190 words) and the voice over (except for ENG speakers, who simply delivered their version of my own voice track).

I’ve just stumbled upon their service and I’m really excited by their ordering flow: it feels like a conversation. And it’s also very affordable too: $0.03 per word.
I even received a 150-word free allowance to test the service (you get it by default with your first order). Give it a try on unbabel.com
And… you know what? I hadn’t even finished this article that I received the translation of a 100-word email from English to Russian (for free thanks to the welcome gift), less than 15 minutes after ordering it (12′).
(I was about to write a short sentence saying that I was waiting for the test translation to land in my inbox, just to check the quality of the service. I erased it when I saw their email in my inbox…).
This was blazing fast and the quality is outstanding: the tone is right, no mistake. I think those guys will receive extra orders from me on a weekly basis. It makes a world of a difference if you can communicate with people in their own language. Forget about Google Translate, use REAL people, it’s not 100% free but the ROI (return on investment) is immediate.
